Maestro card how many digits

Guys, I'm confused. It's the first time I'm using my new Maestro card to book a car. But when I put the number in the slot, it's too long, and it won't accepted. To add confusion, at the bottom of the card there is another number, in smaller print, underlined with "card number". That number doesn't work either. Any help greatly appreciated Ramon.
