We expect you will have many questions as we move through this project, and we are committed to keeping the community informed every step of the way. Connect with us at recreation laclabichecounty. The new Aquatics Centre will strengthen our community by providing new economic opportunities, enhance our quality of life, and create new ways to promote health and wellness for all County residents. Aquatics operating costs will decrease with a new, modernized Centre while providing more services to the community.
The County has completed community engagement on the features of the Concept Plan and will compile this information by the end of October The completed design will be made available to the public by April with construction starting shortly after, with a year construction period.
The anticipated opening of the new Aquatics Centre is in The Concept Plan for the new Aquatics Centre includes a teaching and leisure pool, competition pool, lazy river, water slides, hot tub, steam rooms, multi-purpose and program rooms, and viewing space.
Original planning of the Bold Center identified a future Aquatics Centre attached, sharing parking and other amenities within the Multi-Purpose Recreation Center. The new Aquatics Centre is intended to replace Portage Pool, which is at the end of its life cycle and needs significant upgrades. The County currently leases the pool from Portage College, who will re-purpose the space for educational programming. Programming will be offered that reflects the needs and desires of the community.
The new Aquatics Centre will be larger than the Portage Pool, as such the ability to offer more programs is available. Gaggles of children from Newham's nearby schools, visiting on Tuesday for their first splash, couldn't be more thrilled. The complex houses two metre pools. In the training pool area, conceived as a cave-like space with a beautiful coffered concrete ceiling, a metre-long inflatable assault course is being put through its paces.
Both pools are equipped with sliding booms and movable floors, meaning there can in effect be up to six swimming areas in operation at once. Doing lengths here will never get boring. Rising up from a single point at its southern end, the roof hangs in the air, its continuous timber skin belying the structural gymnastics going on inside it, where 3, tonnes of steel zigzag their way unsupported for metres in a dense network of trusses.
