He's done a great job, he's like his own brand. I sincerely think he probably doesn't totally enjoy playing a lot of that same crap over and over again but if you think about it it still beats a regular day job, and it's really not so bad if you're at least making other people happy doing it.
I totally understand where you're coming from though. When I think of trance I don't even think this formulaic stuff they've been pushing for a good 8 years or so now. I think of stuff like Because he's good. No matter what they tell you on MTV. People like Trance and he peaked at the right time in that genre. He's popular because trance is pretty commerical. My mum likes it if that says anything. No idea if he is very popular this days.
Between the years - you could not find a better DJ on the planet than Armin. He played the best kind of warm, electronic music that stood head and shoulders above the kind of generic trance or ploddy house that heaps of the other guys were playing at the time. Unfortunately it's quite hard to retain artistic integrity when someone reverses a dump truck full of cash up to your front door step and unloads.
